Why not just rent a SUP and go out on my own?
We now offer limited board rentals, but when you book a eco-tour with us, we take care of all the setup and transpiration, break down, give you instruction and help guide your trip based on conditions. Also, we have first aid training, water safety training, and a few other things on standby in case they are needed. We encourage you to try both options or mix and match throughout the season.
What should I wear?
Dress appropriately for the weather on the day of your trip. Usually swim or activewear is best. If the temps are cooler, we'll send you some suggestions to help make your trip enjoyable even if its a bit cooler than preferred. Above else, avoid cotton and you’re good to go.
How can I schedule a SUP Shenandoah tour or lesson?
You can register online for available dates for lessons and eco-tours HERE.
Can I request to book a private tour or lesson on a dates not listed?
Yes! Reach out and we'll see if we can accommodate you.
How many people can you accommodate?
Currently we can take out 4 guests per trip. We're aiming to make it 6 very soon.
Can my child ride on my paddle board with me?
We currently offer family friendly paddling at our SUP the South Sunday's. If you want to experience one of our other rivers with your kids, you can do this by booking a private group tour.
Do you allow pets on boards?
At the moment, no. Sorry :(
Where do we meet?
We offer excursions at a variety of destinations so be sure to follow the directions in your trip registration page (be sure to scroll all the way down for full itinerary and directions). Also, please arrive at least 15-minutes prior to departure time.
Is there a age limit?
We're currently limited to taking paddlers 12 years or older who are accompanied by a adult or legal guardian. We offer family friendly options for those with smaller children a couple times a year or with a private group booking.
Is there a weight limit?
We have about 3 boards that can comfortably hold paddlers up to about 250(ish)lbs, give or take. Our largest boards claim to have a 325lbs capacity but keep in mind, as you push the weight capacity of our boards, the more unstable they become just due to physics. We hate there are limitations in this regard but we're limited to what equipment is available by manufactures.
I have terrible balance, can I still paddle board?
Yeah, we think so. Paddle boarding will have you working all these small stabilizing muscles you almost never use, some in your feet and your core. That said, most people do fine on a SUP after getting over the initial adjustment of balancing on water. It's common to sit or kneel between standing, even pros need breaks.
My friend has their own paddle board and wants to tag alone, can they come and get a discount?
For liability reasons, If they are formally joining during the lesson then on the trip, we require a $40 fee for paddlers with their own gear to participate fully. If they are just tagging along your trip and did not formally book with you, they can wait for you during the lesson and then are responsible for themselves, their equipment, and our guide will only intervene in an life threatening emergency under our commitment to help others when in need.
What do I need to bring?
Swim wear or active wear you don’t mind getting wet
Some kind of water shoes or sandals with heel straps are required (water shoes, sandals with heel straps like Tevas or Chacos, Vibram 5-fingers, surf booties, old sneakers all will work). Due to safety reasons, we cannot allow guests to paddle barefoot, with flip flops, slides, or any water shoe/sandal that doesn't fasten to your heel.
Sun screen (We always have a bottom of reef-friendly sunscreen provided for free if you don’t have your own!)
Sun glasses with tethers (tethers available for your use at no cost to you)
Water bottle (We have a jug to fill up your bottle of needed so please bring your own reusable bottle bottle!)
